SWA Architecture Weekly Blog

Hello and welcome to a special post brought to you by SWA Architecture.  If you go through most of our blog posts they usually focus on one project that we have worked on, show you what the project is and what SWA Architecture is responsible for.  This time we are changing it up a bit and showing you a bunch of projects that are landmarked building.

Landmark buildings are old buildings that are protected by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in New York City.  Basically it is to keep these old, beautiful, historical buildings in tact.  The LPC is a charter mandated commission in New York City.  Created in 1965 through groundbreaking legislation signed by then mayor Robert F. Wagner due to the loss of historical significant buildings in New York City.  Most notably, Pennsylvania Station.

Below are ten landmarks projects we have worked on.  We have many more and will post them later.   The top couple really are some of the most historical in New York City -

148 East 40th Street

267 W 139th Street

4 St Marks

 12 W 19th Street

Coco Pazzo

4 West 19th Street

28 Bond Street

235 W 46th Street

7 W 84th Street

This week we return to a very special project, the kitchen design showroom located at 28 Bond Street.  Last time we updated you on the project it was close to being done.  We are returning now to this wonderful project now that it is up and running.  We worked with Devol to make the kitchen you see in the pictures.  Take a look at the previous posts on this spot to get a sense how just how fast the progress has been on this project.  Devol is a world-renowned design led furniture manufacturer for 25 years.

SWA Architecture are the architects, planners and expediters at the Department of Buildings.  SWA Architecture are also the architects for the Landmarks Preservation Commission approvals.  We are very happy with the progress of this project and hope we work with these great clients again.

SWA Architecture Weekly Blog

Hello and welcome back to the SWA Architecture weekly blog.  The only architecture blog like it.  If this is your first time reading this blog here is what we are about.  We are a mid size architecture company based in New York.  We work on projects all over the Northeast of the United States that vary from restaurants, to stores, to hotels.

This week we are covering a restaurant named Karasu, located at 166 Dekalb Ave.  If you go, you will see that Kerasu does not appear to actually be there and the restaurant Walters is actually there.  That is because to get to Karasu you must walk through Walters and go through a back door to get to this lovely Japanese restaurant.  We actually have also done work on Walters and  we covered the restaurant Walters in the past.  Walters was phase one and Karasu was phase two for this project.

Karasu is a secret spot known for its wonderful dishes.  The dishes are informed by the idea of washoku, a culinary philosophy that aims for balance across a meal by covering a diversity of flavors, textures and colors among a spread of dishes.

SWA Architecture are the architects and expediters for the interior renovation of this space.  We also obtained the place of assembly permits required.  Lastly, SWA Architecture also are the architects and expediters for the Landmark Applications needed for this spot.

That's it for this week's SWA Architecture weekly blog.  Stay tuned for more to come your way very soon.  We hope you enjoyed covering Karasu as much as we did.  Give us a follow on instagram - @swa_architecture to see all the wonderful projects we have been a part of!

SWA Architecture Weekly Blog

Hello and welcome back to the SWA Architecture architecture weekly blog with a special bonus post coming your way!  If you missed our post earlier this week we updated you on a very unique and special project.  Read more of the previous post to find out what it is.

This week we are giving you an update on a project located at 12 W 19th street.  This project is focusing on restoring a historical building in the "Ladies Mile" district.  For those of you unaware of what this district is, here is a brief refresher on the subject.  The "Ladies Mile' was a prime shopping district in Manhattan at the end of the 19th century, serving well to do 'carriage trade' of the city.  It extends from roughly 15th street to 24th street and from Park Avenue South to West of 6th Avenue.

SWA Architecture are the architects, interior designers, expediters and landmarks architects and expediters for this historical building.  As you can see from the photos this project has a long way to go but we will update you as it gets further along.  This is our first job with this client and hope to do more with them.  This is our sixth project with Streamline Worldwide General Contractors.  We have a great relationship with this contracting company.  Lastly, this is our third project in the "Ladies Mile' district and we are very proud of all of them.

That's it this week for the SWA Architecture weekly blog.  Stay tuned for next week, you won't want to miss the wonderful projects we got coming your way.  Last but not least, give us a follow on instagram - @swa_architecture and see a comprehensive list of all the projects we have written about.

SWA Architecture Weekly Blog

Hello and welcome back to a very special Friday rolling SWA Architecture weekly blog coming your way. Earlier this week we covered a new plaza being done in the Rivergate Complex.  This week we take a look at a project we have covered since its inception.

Welcome to The Ribbon Midtown.  A beautiful spot located at 220 West 44thStreet in the heart of the Theatre District. Yes, this is the spot of Guy Fieri’s former restaurant, which closed in late 2017.  It has been remodeled and redone to make a wonderful dining experience. The Ribbon Midtown is owned by the Bromberg Brothers and Ellen’s Stardust/Iridium Group.

SWA Architecture is responsible for redesigning the space with an interior designer, and are also responsible for filing for architecture and expediting.  This is the fourth spot SWA Architecture has done with this group. We have covered this spot as it has been remade and now that it is open do yourself a favor and come for the amazing food.  Stay for the amazing atmosphere.

That’s it this week for the SWA Architecture Weekly blog.  We hope you enjoyed is as much as we did.  Stay tuned next week for some more great posts to come your way and give us a follow on Instagram - @swa_architecture to see all the great projects we have been a part of.
